630 kms ‘via Nad’
Folks from office decided that the best way to celebrate Yugadi was to go on a bike trip to Wayanad. The lead-up to this trip was planned horribly. It took a marathon effort to decide the final destination, the other options being Kudremukh, Ooty and a few more places. We were supposed to leave for Mysore on Friday morning and we were still not sure about who all were joining us.
The trip panned out quite well eventually. The roads were surprisingly in excellent condition. We were also lucky to run into some excellent weather conditions while we were entering the Muthanga forest limits. The ride though the forest on both occasions, to Wayanad and then on the way back, was the best part of the trip in my opinion.
This was my first trip to Wayanad. Nice place. Lot of greenery around. Not as picturesque as Kodaikanal or Ooty but still quite decent.
Few pics from the trip.

Will upload some more pics on my Flickr account as and when I find the time.

Did you climb Chembra peak?
No Vish. Our plan was to go to the Ghat View Point and cover everything else that came along the way (suchipura falls, edeccal caves). we managed to cover edeccal caves, which IMO was a complete waste of time. And by the time we finished edeccal caves and started for suchipura falls, rains hit the area and we did not want to risk riding on the ghat roads when they were wet.
Oh Okay.
Never risk climbing the Chembra also when it’s raining. I had the experience of my life. Can’t forget it. Etched in my memories for ever
I guess climbing any hill while it is raining is fraught with risks. Chembra was no different I guess. Would like to know about this someday
I must tell you , the clarity in the snaps is too good.
U have gr8 skills at this too
Thanks.
they have come out well considering that I was the pillion rider and we were on the move when I took these snaps.
*Ahem ahem*.. Thanks to the driver..
Oh ya…how can i forget…special thanks to sudeep who was riding the bike when i took these pics…
on and by the way, the third snap in this collection was taken by sudeep. it was his idea and his execution. Bravo Sudeep!
We climbed the Chembra Peak up till the lake in heavy stormy rain. I can never forget having water-soaked bread for lunch to save us from the starvation.
Hey
Can you pass me on your itinerary – time, place, route you took… I am planning to ride down to Waynad…. May be you could mail..
Chao!
You are planning to RIDE down to Wayanad? seriously?
Started from Bangalore at around 8:30 on Friday morning…
Took a break at Maddur Coffee Day : about half an hour
Next stop mysore : 11:30 – 12 stopped for lunch for about an hour
Through Nanjangud and then heading towards Gundalpet
Reached gundalpet around 3 in the afternoon I guess….took two breaks in between…one for some coconut water and then one more at gundalpet rto
Entered forests limits : beautiful ride, the best part of the journey…
Next stop sulthan bathery: reached at around 5-5:30-6…took a tea break…sulthan bathery is full of bakery shops…they should have named it sulthan bakery instead IMO
Accomodation at Hotel Windflower…good hotel…nice rooms….looked like a good choice considering the other options… hogged some keralite delacies in the evening….boozed into the night and then crashed…
9 next morning…breakfast…kerala aabam and curry…..headed for meppadi….caught edeccal caves on the way….sun beating down on our heads as we climbed…pointless really…should have ditched this and gone somewhere else….then headed towards suchipura falls…caught some tea plantations in between…nice…good place to take some snaps…went all the way towards the ghat wiew point…caught some rain in between…headed towards vythri…decided it was going to get dark by the time we returned to sulthan bathery…decided to go back… 4:30 in the evening now
slight drizzle all along…reached sulthan bathery around 5…caught the sunset….freshened up….roamed around sulthan bathery again….heavy dinner at a local kerala restaurant…. crashed early…plan was to hit the muthanga forest limits at 6 in the morning to catch a glimpse of some wild animals if possible…
started on time…reached the forest limits on time….perfect setting….the early morning fog and stuff…spotted a few spotted deers…peacock…and then an elephant….
reached gundalpet at around 8…tea break…reached mysore…another break for breakfast at Kamats….this was around 10ish….the last part of the journey was the mysore blore highway….we were doing a 90 on these roads…this was the most boring part of the journey to be honest… break at maddur coffee day again…
reached Blore by 1 in the afternoon…
hot water bath….CRASHHHHH!!!
Okay, not ME riding… but yes with office friends!!
Arrrgghh I hate to admit it!!
Thanks a lot too!!
